A MUST TRY Best flavours of Spain! A great tapas bar! A must try is their stuffed mushrooms and their sausages in cooked in cider!
If you’re looking for a traditional, local experience, this place is a must-visit. It’s always bustling and full of energy, creating a lively and authentic atmosphere. They even have live music, with a talented pianist adding to the charm. The food is exceptional, especially the stuffed mushrooms—definitely order those, you won’t regret it.
If you’re in Madrid and looking for something iconic and delicious, don’t skip El Mesón del Champiñón. We stopped in after hearing about their famous mushrooms, and they did not disappoint. Perfectly grilled, juicy, and packed with flavor, honestly one of the highlights of our trip! We also had a Caracaba and some sparkling water, which paired nicely with the food. The vibe inside is super charming and rustic, with a warm and friendly staff that made the experience even better. It’s the kind of place that feels both local and welcoming to visitors. Prices were fair, and the quality definitely exceeded expectations. I took a bunch of photos and videos because it was just that good and I want others to see what they’re missing! Highly recommend swinging by if you’re in the area. Even if you’re not a huge mushroom fan, these might just convert you.
Their mushroom dish is famous and popular. Juicy and palatable. You need those two sticks to put each one into your mouth not to spill the mushroom juice inside! Their Padron pepper was also amazing. When you enter, you can see how they are cooking them thru a window. Not just all their dish were good, people were all friendly and inviting. This is a must try in Madrid.
Food was good, great place for a quick bite (tapas) and go to the next. The service was ok and friendly. Very noise and crowded, but keep the spirit off the old time. Isn’t attractive to the eyes but the food let you forget about it. Place that you need to be at least one time if you are in Madrid.
Came here when I was a kid in the mid 80s and just revisited it in May of 2025 for my birthday. The place is still the same and is absolutely amazing to see how they fit over 40 people in that one little room. We went on a night that they had a performer playing the keyboard. It was great. He sang popular Spanish songs and it was so nice to see all the people singing along too. We of course had the chanpiñon tapas which is their signature dish of mushrooms. It was so nice to be here and share in that moment. The seating was tight but the atmosphere made up for it. I would definitely go back and I will definitely recommend you visit this iconic restaurant if you’re ever in Madrid.
They are really friendly and attantive. Mushrooms were good, so you should try it. They also serve it without pork if you want. My Turkish-Cuban friend (waiter) is very helpful, because he immediately changed my plate with vegan plate when I said him that I don't eat pork. I never forget it.
Mesón del Champiñón is a must visit gem in Madrid, especially if you’re a fan of button mushrooms and let’s be honest, who isn’t? This cozy spot near Plaza Mayor has mastered the art of turning mushrooms into a culinary experience you’ll dream about. Their signature grilled mushrooms are so good, you might start questioning your life choices for not trying them sooner. Don’t miss the hadron peppers… okay, they’re actually “padrón” peppers, but they hit with particle-level flavor collisions =) The atmosphere is warm, rustic, and full of energy made even better by the live music that fills the air and might just tempt you to dance with a mushroom in hand. Just a one bad thing live music place has very low capacity and really small room.
